Welcome to the New Orleans and Louisiana Photography Blog!

This blog is an online space for the sharing of historic and contemporary Louisiana photography in order to create a broad visual understanding of the history of the medium in our area. Here we will share alternating posts about pioneering figures from photography’s past as well as work being created by contemporary photographers in Louisiana today, including important regional gallery and museum events and openings. By drawing comparisons between the contemporary and historical approaches to subject matter, location, and technique we hope to create a larger conversation about the record of photography in Louisiana. Follow along for artist spotlights, book recommendations, historic photographs of Louisiana culture, contemporary images curated from social media, and dialogue between different voices within the arts community in New Orleans and Louisiana.

The conversation will begin as a dialogue between Frank Relle and Catie Sampson. Our intention is to alternate blog posts between the past and the present, and thereby create connections  that build upon the previous posts’ content. We hope you will further the conversation by commenting on posts that inform or interest you.
